Did a bit of shopping at the NWW2A Eden Camp event and now have some Obergefreiter chevrons, subdued GJ patch (as opposed to my silver wire parade one), early pattern GD shoulderboards and a fabulous knitted balaclava. I resisted the piles of knives and guns.
A nice shiny pair of Conrad Unos GJ puttee buckles also arrived yesterday.
Cheers

Cool Steel or brass cases?
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

If its a bolt in liner rather than lift the dot it is worth almost as much as a good repro para helmet.

I buy so much its not real but a barely drink and don't smoke so I guess I'm entitled to one 'bad' habit! Just bought some WW2 US infantry gear; M1 helmet, some M36 webbing/pouches for my Thompson - which is a 1928 along with KA 110 mid-caps for that.... Will look at an M43 jacket next me thinks.... I'm not a stitch counter and will most likely look at having a fairly generic kit that I can swop and change a bit as it suits..

Someone I frequently meet at blat-fests heard I've joined the WW2 scene and dug an almost new WE Luger P08 out of his wardrobe armoury, along with three mags! I've heard these things don't perform very well, but it looks and feels great and a £45 I had to have it. Why wouldn't you want a Luger?
I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.
£45 for a Luger and 3 mag's is a good deal, the problem with them is the magazine is so small it contains only a small gas reservoir , this means re gassing after each load of BB's and if its a little cold it might not empty the mag before running out of gas , on a warm day they are fine.

I'm very pleased, he asked for £50 and being the soulless monster I am I knocked him down another £5 then decided to nab it before he went elsewhere. Nice to know it performs OK at least on the field, I had taken it as read that cold weather will cripple the thing (as with any all metal GBB). The tiny gas reservoir doesn't worry me too much, if I need to fire off multiple magazines with it in any WWII game I'm doing something inherently wrong. Also it's the only WWII or airsoft item I've had the chance to buy in a while I really felt I had to.

They are certainly nice toys to have, I know a few people with them but I have so far resisted the temptation.
The main function of pistols on the battlefield is to provide souveniers for the enemy, somebody wise once said. But they are so cool...
If someone still made a springer Luger I'd have it like a shot.

Couple of new bits yesterday.
Thompson 3 cell, 30rd mag pouch and 2 rigger pouches for the Airborne kit!
Finally some Mk3 ammo pouches, with the correct press stud closer.
Also some 11th armoured division patches for the Foy game. Let the sewing and blancoing commence.
got a slightly small (by 2cm but fits ok with tinkering) a Bulgarian M51 for my Italian impression. looks fine but needs a clean up, cheap too!
Recent highlights of my purchaces:
From Derby Cattle Market Carboot last Sunday:
British B173 ammo box, in apple green, for £2!
Two handsets/recievers for British WW2 telephones, along with a load of '30s/'40s/'50s civilian GPO items (mainly classic wall-mounted wooden boxed equipment), all for £10,
From eBay:
Early/scarce '37pattern waterbottle carrier with the closure popper on the side, rather than on the top, for £6.99 inc' postage.
From Anchor Supplies (both Nottingham and Ripley brances)
Two pairs of 'large' width ammo boots, that actually fit me! One pair is 13L and already perfect with hobnails and pebbled uppers and are very comfy, while the other pair is an oversized modern parade-type 12L pair, which I've softened up and have already stripped the third sole off of and is ready to be hobnailed! 12L pair will be for airsoft, and 13L pair will be for reenactment.

Be warned, that nasty looking felt lining that goes behind the leather, it's contains asbestos, I kinda recognized it right off the bat and had my scientist dad who works in a lab give it the acid test (asbestos doesn't really break down in acid, at least not very quickly) and after a few hours about a third of the scrap remained, and still remains to this day (mind you this was about a year, year and a half ago). So, err, yeah, I don't really know what to tell you, you should probably go outside and find some safe way of removing the liner, maybe if you got it wet first so fewer particles break off into the air, then bagged it up in a plastic bag and dispose of it properly/don't just throw it in the bin.

Thanks for the heads up, really good of you , i actually havent opened the clear bag yet. I have access to breathing aparatus and haz-chem desposal, so ill open at station. Interesting though, i had no idea it was used in helmets!
